The objective of the project was to boost the self-training of 16-20 young Roma women in one of the most disadvantaged areas of Hungary. The association’s experience is that Roma women are the most responsive to integrative initiatives. Their knowledge and orientation is the most determining factor of the lifestyle and education of Roma families. The training provided knowledge to make everyday life easier for them and to improve the way of living. This innovative program also used indirect forms of community knowledge transfer between Roma women, using constructive pedagogical methods. The idea came directly from Roma women living in Halmaj: „Roma women from other villages should come to see the way we live, how we clean our houses and make the garden!” This model of Roma women knowledge transfer is assisted by Holdam Association (Miskolc), which gives experience and support. Furthermore the question of women’s right and mental hygiene was also part of the project. By the end of the project the Roma female participants weree able to share their experience and knowledge in a broader circles.
