The aim of the study trip was to examine the specific method of social integration: the participatory videos which are connected to art therapy. Thus the pair also planned to show the used art therapy methods.
The first interview was made with Bjørn Bolstad director of the Ringstabekk Skole in Oslo. They discussed the advantages and opportunities about the theme-based education which can use the participatory video method. After that they visited a school in which a school concert (Rikskonserten) was organized so they could get know the art therapy methods at first-hand.
The pair interviewed Ase Svenheim Drivenes documentary film producer, in order to learn about the Participatory video method which was really efficient in communicating the situation of migrants and also the workshops helped unaccompanied asylum seeker children to process their traumas.
Another art therapy method was presented by Kajsa Næss who worked with children whose parents were in prison. Venja Ruud Nilsen works with people in prison and uses community music therapy in order to help their reintegration after their release. They learned more about music therapy from three professors of the Norwegian Academy of Music. The pair also visited the Icelandic Hitt Húsid and learned about their Art without borders program and festival. Their short video about this experience is available on their YouTube channel.
