The Vörösmarty Foundation’s campaign was about the current problem of immigration in Hungary and in Europe. The existing situation is serious: nowadays the immigrants are still the main characters of the news. The up-to-date nature of the program was based on the fact that radical voices about this issue were getting stronger in Hungary, especially among youngsters.
This plan’s goal was to change the people’s opinion about the refugees; to stand up against hate speech, and create an accepting attitude among upper-grade students in the elementary schools. Let them know more about illegal immigrants and consequently spreading tolerant behaviors. At the end of the program visitors as well as the children they visited got authentic information.
Their long term goal was to catch out the process of stereotyping by examining the previous months. This way participants could realize in the future if a similar process would start in their environment and they could stand up against hate speech, because this program will provide a possible model for them.
They wanted to achieve this with the help of volunteers and teachers of the Vörösmarty Foundation: they organized competitions and a conferece, they made documentary film and they created an special class meeting lesson including elements of drama pedagogy. With this action they reached 224 eighth grade students.
