Gallery8- Roma Contemporary Art Space aims to serve the Roma talents, artists and creative individuals by establishing a space for contemporary art production, collaboration, presentation and interpretation in order to ensure that Roma artists become part of the international contemporary art scene. The main goal is to incent Roma artists to deconstruct the stereotypical Roma image, with experimenting with new genres and new mediums. This innovative strategy will attract a larger audience, will lead to greater visibility , which will lead to the recognition of Roma contemporary art.
The target groups on the local level are the Roma artists and talents, cultural workers and curators, and the local school children. Indirectly: the project aims at the international contemporary art scene, at the Roma minority in general, and at the policy making level.
The activities are multifaceted: there is a talent casting initiative, a capacity building of the identified artists, an international and professional exhibition series, from which two are extended with a discursive workshop program. The exhibitions are comprehended with an art education program component for the local school ’s children groups.
Gallery8 leads many local and international partners. It builds a synthesis among local (8th district) initiatives. With the project partners and with the Gallery8 experts the results of this program will be reinvested in the scientific and publication activity of ERCF Foundation.
