The aim of the project is testing and setting-up a peer-driven intervention model in the needle exchange program in the Contact program of the VIII. District of the Blue Point Foundation. The peer program is based on an approach according to which IDUs provide informal support to other injecting drug users. The task of the project is to identify and select clients who will be more actively taking part in the programme and thus, working together, through closer contact, train themselves to become peer. On one hand, they will help the Foundation achieve its objectives more effectively, on the other hand, they will gain practical experiences and may acquire
different skills that are useful outside the programme in other areas of their lives. The target beneficiaries covered by this program are beneficiaries of the needle exchange program, approximately one thousand injecting drug users, isolated, with little or no coverage by the social security scheme and living in extreme poverty in a
socio-cultural ghetto, declaring themselves Roma. As a result of the project a new kind of empowerment and local
development may be introduced in Hungary's largest needle exchange programs in the VIII. district of the Blue Point Foundation. Thus, by this model will be indirectly used by the Blue Point Foundation as well, where we are applying a participatory approach with our clients from the design of the services until the evaluation phase.
