A significant part of women do not know about the advantages and disadvantages of superfluous and necessary interventions that burden them, neither of the dangers of their incidental complications. Alternatal aims to inform about the latest scientific information on birthgiving and childcare; thus helping families to find the most secure obstetric service for them. They will organize trainings to prepare women for birthgiving, and they will make interviews with women who have given birth in- and outside of institutions, and they will initiate a dialogue with medical students on the occasion of Freedom for Birth documentary movie.
Progress of the project:
During our project we hold 3-days-long birth preparation courses. Six were held in Budapest, an other six in the country, for instance one of them in a small village in Baranya County.
We made interviews, which partly show that there is a significant need to the project activities, like spreading information about the birth. The information about the undisturbed birth hardly gets to the families in the present situation in our country. The other part of the interviews evaluates our activities, for example how useful were these courses for the participants.
Among our project activities we also projected film (Microbirth and Freedom for Birth) in and outside of the universities. We aimed to involve the medical student to the film projecting and dialogue afterwards, but mostly independent civils participated in the film projecting.
In 2015 May two colleagues of ours participated int he ENCA European Network of Childbirth Assotiation conference in Paris.
Thanks to the unique opportunity of Norwegian Civic Fund, one of our volunteers had the possibility to represent the foundation and our project in Oslo in 2015 October, and build network internationally and nationally with the cotravelling civil participants.
Furthermore our colleagues, volunteers took part in professional courses.
We planned and desgined posters, which showed the message of the undisturbed birth.
Since hard to measure how many people have received our message, hard to measure this work objectively, although the reported women unanimously said that they were more determined during their birth giving, and better informed about the hospital protocol annd consequences of interventions.
